Round, ice blue eyes gazed up at the cloudy sky. It had to be just after dawn though, because the medicine cat could remember not too long ago the night grew lighter and into day. Small, tiny snowflakes descended from the clouds, and sharp, cold wind blew across the open vast area of WindClan territory. But that did not bother Willowcloud, because warmth was just another perk of having thick warm hair.
What did bother her, however, was the hunger pains her empty stomach felt, and the dull ache of loneliness in her heart. She sulked to the center of the camp where the freshkill pile usually lay, to find nothing but an empty, snowy ground. She sighed, and sat down, curling her tail around her paws, ice blue orbs staring blankly at the ground. Would WindClan even get fed today? In such a scarce season, prey was few, and good prey was rare.
Willowcloud looked around, was the whole clan asleep? She just longed for someone to wake up and keep her company. The life of a medicine cat was a solitary and lonely one, and she was embarrassed to admit she had no friends since she usually was only social with Swiftstep. Now that her mentor had retired though, she was left with no one to occupy her time. She could cure the clan, but who in the clan could cure her case of loneliness?

Tired, pale green eyes blinked open slowly. The first thing she was aware of was the dull ache of her muscles. Cinderstar's half-open gaze slid out to the open camp before her. It was snowing. No surprise there. A silent sigh escaped her jaws. The blue-gray she-cat folded her ears back against her skull. Leaf-bare always lasts long, but this season seems even longer. She was horribly sick of looking out to find the fresh-kill pile dangerously low or even nonexistent. Worry filled her eyes to the brim, before she pushed it aside. She needed to keep her emotions calm. A panicked leader would do her clan no good. Besides, leaf-bare cannot last forever.
With a mighty push, slender legs led her down the steep hill from her den. Flicking her green gaze upward, she sees Willowcloud in the middle of their snow-covered home, eyes down. As the leader pads closer to the medicine cat, she purrs a light greeting. Cinderstar settles herself beside the pale she-cat, huffing slightly. Her own gaze flicks to the empty pile, and a rock of sadness settles in her belly. She reaches out a paw to touch the barren ground, before bringing back to her side. "I wish I could do something," she murmurs quietly.
