Trembles shook down his spin, shaking him to the very core. Leaf-bare was definitely unforgiving this year. How long had it been going on so far? A moon or two? Hopefully it would end soon. His clan was malnourished, and the snow and cold were horrible conditions for the elderly and young.
On the bright side, the mud was now ice.
A black nose poked up through the snow, pushing out from under the roots of the big oak tree, twitching with irritation at the cold. Soon followed a black and white head, yellow eyes narrowing with displeasure. The tom slowly crept out from under the tree, shaking snow from his pelt before fluffing it up in an attempt to keep warm.
His eyes scanned the clearing, a heavy sigh forming a cloud of fog in front of him. This leaf-bare was getting on his nerves, though he tried not to show it. Just an annoyed flick of the tail here and there. Regardless of the snow, he had a clan to lead. Eveningstar stood at his full height, glancing up at the sky. It was hard to tell the time of day with the clouds covering the sun. Eh, he was just going to assume it was close to sunhigh.

The cold woke him, despite his thick fur's protection. Cloudfrost uncurled himself from his nest, stretching hastily. He had to go on the sunhigh patrol, so he'd better go ahead and get ready... He stuck his head out of the warrior's den, his whiskers twitching in the cold, before slinking out. Though he hated the cold, he'd hate to be unproductive even more...
He glanced up at the sky, scowling when he realized it was too cloudy to see the sun. What time was it? It felt like it should still be in the early morning...
Cloudfrost glanced over, hearing a familiar sigh. Eveningstar. His tail twitched. The leader must be in a somewhat similar predicament...

He swiped a paw over his nose as a flake fell on it. He really did hate this cold. It chilled him to the bone and kept him up at night. He was really just worried he was going to wake up one of these days or in the middle of the night to a frozen cat.
The leader straightened his posture, pupils slitting. Never mind that for now. He needed to focus on waking up patrols and doing whatever it took to give his clan food. Eveningstar turned his head, eyes sweeping over the land of white until he found a warrior emerging from under the bramble bush. The dual-colored cat slunk forwards, heading towards the younger tom cat. "Cloudfrost. I assume you slept well?" He called out, keeping his voice calm.

The tom's ears flicked as the other cat approached, and he turned towards him. "As well as I could in this weather." he commented back, his quiet voice seeming loud in the cool calm of the morning. Cloudfrost's milky eyes turned to his leader. "I suppose it's the same for you?" As they spoke, he could practically feel the chill from the ground numbing his paw pads, and he shifted slightly, laying his tail across his paws to try to keep warm.

As the leader neared the warrior, he slowed to a stop. He crouched back on his haunches, chin deep in the snow. He could feel the frozen mud underneath his paws, and... It was a really weird feeling. "It could have been better." He sighed once more, narrowing his eyes as he watched his breath cloud around him.
He turned his yellow gaze back to Cloudfrost, unblinking. "Is anyone else up? We need to send out a patrol soon. Who knows how needy the other clans will be with the lack of food..." His voice trailed off as he shifted around a bit. Riverclan fared the best in this kind of weather. Their borders were the ones that needed protecting and not so much Shadowclan's. Regardless, he couldn't risk it, and he wasn't going to risk sending his own warriors across the Thunderpath just to try and fish out a few slimy creatures.

Cloudfrost looked up towards the sky as Eveningstar spoke, scowling when he felt a snow flake melt on his nose. He ruffled his fur, disturbing the thin layer of white that had gathered on his coat, and turned back to the other tom. "Not that I saw." he said flatly. "I'm supposed to be with the sunhigh patrol, though." he added, sighing. They didn't need to assign him to a patrol that no other cat would show up to... It was annoyingly pointless.
His stomach rumbled. He hadn't eaten in what felt like moons but was actually only a day and a half. Perhaps he could get Eveningstar to let him go out hunting. He could always check the borders and renew the markings while he was out... It would give him something to do, besides freeze to death in camp.

That was good. At least some cats were kicking into high gear. Though if it was this close to sunhigh already and the other cats weren't out and about, then they really must be enjoying their dreams. The tom flicked his tail in annoyance, shaking his head free of a thin layer of snow. He settled into watching his breath form in front of his eyes, finding a bit of amusement in that for a few moments. Eveningstar blinked, shaking his head again.
He really hated the feeling of snow. It bothered him to Starclan and back. Focusing back on the warrior, he gave him an odd look at the growling stomach. That was to be expected. Everyone was going to lose a couple of pounds this winter. "Why don't you head on out and hunt a little as well." The tom paused, mulling over a thought for a few moments. "In fact, I'll join you. If the other lazy mousebrains can't get up for a patrol, then I might as well accompany you."

Frozenstream laid curled up in her nest, her tail curled up around her paws and her nose tucked in her fur in an attempt to keep warm. She had laid there awake for a while, awaken by a bad dream, and unable to fall back to sleep because of a sad feeling she just couldn't shake. Frozenstream sighed and got up and stretched, if she was awake early she might as well do something productive instead of wasting her time. Around her warriors were still asleep. Lazy mousebrains! She thought, leaf bare was not the time of the year to sleep in. With such little day light, and such scarce prey, now was not the time of year to waste time in such a critical season.
But unlike others, she enjoyed the cold. She loved leaf bare, and could see the beauty of the season. She smiled slightly as she raised her head to the cloudy sky, as snowflakes descended from it. In the clearing she could see Eveningstar and Cloudfrost chatting. Frozenstream bounded up to them, giving a short nod to her leader. "Morning." She mewed, "Since I'm up early, I wondered if there were any duties or tasks you'd like me to carry out?" If any other cat had said that, it would sound like they were sucking up, but for Frozenstream this was exactly her personality. She loved to serve her clan.

Cloudfrost smirked slightly at the suggestion of a hunting patrol. That sounded fine with him. He had just stood to take off, having nodded his consent, when another of the warriors came up. His ear flicked in slight irritation, but he looked at Eveningstar. "We were just about to go hunting. I suppose you could come." he meowed, flicking his tail. "Since no one else will get off their tails to join us..."
((Gah, muse broke...))

He took a step towards the exit, pausing when a female's voice spoke up. He turned his head, black ears twitching with irritation at being stopped. Yellow eyes stared at the she-cat for a few good moments, listening to what she and Cloudfrost had to say.
The leader slowly nodded his head, placing down the paw that he had risen for a step mere moments ago. "Good evening, Frozenstream." He jerked his head towards the camp entrance. "I don't see why not. Come with us. We will find more food in a larger group." Not really waiting nor caring for an answer, the black and white tom cat turned fully towards the camp entrance, bounding through the snow and out of the camp.

((Of course I have to XD))
The gray tom nodded at Eveningstar's words, watching him run off before turning to the she-cat, flicking her shoulder with his tail. "Come on, then," he grunted, bounding after his leader, frost clinging to his fluffy paws as he went along. More prey for the Clan sounded good.

Frozenstream didn't really respond to either of the toms, instead she just nodded her head in agreement. That's how she was though, short with others and mostly kept to herself. Communication was something she only did when it was necessary. She probably wouldn't even stick too close to them while hunting, she'd probably go off on her own to see what prey she could gather for her clan.
The white she-cat put two tail lengths of distance between herself and the toms, tagging along in back, waiting for them to decide the general area that they'd hunt in before splitting off from the group. It was just another one of her traits, Frozenstream was just a solitary creature.
