Name: Nightkit || Nightpaw || Nightpool
Age: 27 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: Riverclan
Rank: Medicine cat
Appearance:
A small black tom with bright blue eyes
If one didn't know any better, they might assume Nightpool, at first glance, was none other than a Windclan cat. . He's horribly slender, if not even a little frail. certainly not the body you'd find on some proud Thunderclan cat. However, looking closer, one would find he doesn't quite fit the cliche of a Windclan cat either, being fairly small, rather than have the highly noted long legs of Windclan. No, you'll find that this tom is far from either of those clans, and actually fits into the ranks of being a Riverclan Medicine cat. Perhaps his skinny and small body comes from the fact that he, foolishly prefers to work, rather than eat....and doesn't usually stop for fresh-kill unless he finds time. An odd sort of habit for someone in the rank of health, but we'll get to that a later.
While small, and certainly not too noticeable, you'll find thing young tom slinking around in the darkness of his den. His sleek and thin black fur is an excellent way to hide in darkness, if ever he finds it to benefit him. This fur is soft, and well-groomed, which is peculiar because you'd think he wouldn't have any time to groom himself, what with all that needs to be done as a Medicine cat. Moving down his long back, to the very end, his short fur erupts into a very bushy long black tail. Another feature that he tries to pride himself in...well as much as this young cat can...for it is very pretty. Going back to the other end of his body, facial wise, Nightpool might actually be handsome....you know...if he wasn't scowling all the time, and glaring at others with his bright blue eyes. It's rare to see this young Medicine cat even flash a smile towards just about anyone or anything in his life. Some kits and apprentices have made it a goal of there's to see if they can catch Nightpool of guard and get him to laugh or smile. Surprisingly a few have managed to see this rare occurrence....but it doesn't exactly last long, and he shoos them away...back to their mothers just as quick his smile came.
Personality:
" I haven't got the time for this."
"Make it quick."
" You're wasting your life, and my valuable time."
"This is what all the fuss is about?"
"Make yourself useful and leave me alone!"
"Speak swift and briefly."
Are only a few of his famous quotes, and most of the only things he ever says to any cat for that matter. Nightpool most certainly isn't the friendliest Medicine cat that ever lived. Often times in his life, he's been known as being "the grump" or "a kill joy". Not the Nightpool cares, or even feels an inkling of regret that he doesn't loosen up and laugh a little. That certainly isn't HIS job in the clan, that kind of stuff is for naive kits, and other such fools. Often he wonders if the even realize that in this life, there is no time to make friends, or have "good times" as other cats might try to argue. Sooner or later everyone is going to die, and to Nightpool what matters is not living life to the fullest, but to leave the biggest mark, and follow your destiny before time is up.
Time...time...time....it's his obsession to hoard as much time as he can. As a result, Nightpool is a strongly impatient young tom. Speak swiftly and briefly is his motto, best not to beat around he bush, and get straight the the point. That way it leaves no understanding, and he can get back to his work in peace, with no interruptions.
Speaking of being impatient, better not go to the Medicine cat if you're having any minor troubles. Nightpool hates having to be interrupted by any sort of problem that to him is an "easy fix". Sure he will help that cat out, but they'll certainly receive an earful of scolding from Nightpool about how they could have fixed the problem themselves if they had any sort of intelligence in their body.
Besides time, his personality stands out as a negative cat to be around, so he's night known to have many friends. His comments are sarcastic, or pessimistic towards others, whether or not they care to listen, he'll express himself, and take his leave, not really caring for hurt feelings or other such opinions of others. Perhaps somewhere deep down he truly is a lonely cat who is self-conscious of himself, and his behavior towards others, inwardly shy, and guilty of himself and his past thus far. However, if he is, he does a good job of keeping a barrier around himself, so that no cat unless he so allows, will understand that part of him.
Now you might be wondering, are there any qualities of Nightpool worthy of being a nurturer towards the clan, or even a clan cat in general. Yes, there are good qualities to Nightpool, though he would deny it to no ends to those who might point it out. Truly he does care for the well being of his clan, and other cats a like. He fears for the future of others before himself, which is secretly, most of the reason he frets over running out of time. While he cannot assure the life of every cat he comes into contact with... he will not let them die without a fight of his own.
A strong sense of loyalty is another good quality that Nightpool just so happens to possess. Not only to the clan in which he cares deeply for, but to Starclan and the Warrior Code. Breaking a law in unthinkable to Nightpool, and if he can help it, nearly impossible for him to willingly decide against Starclan's will. He is their humble servant, and will not step a paw out of line if it is against the Warrior code. Because of his loyalty this young cat in known to be bossy about the rules to other cats (especially apprentices) but honestly, he means as well as any other cat could.
History:
It was a healthy litter, yes, as healthy as any young kit could be being born in a warm season. The old queen would be retiring to be and Elder shortly after she would be done raising her newly born kits Her name, was Lightclaw. Now, there were three kits in this littler...not the most kits a queen could have...but enough for the clan to be proud. The names the old queen gave the three? Well she named them Snowkit, Dapplekit, and Nightkit. Snowkit, was a silvery gray colored she-cat, Dapplekit was black, with orange flecks on her pelt...yes she was a she-cat as well....and then there was the pitch black little kit, his name would be Nightkit...and this was his story. Growing up, Nightkit, Dapplekit and Snowkit lived believing each of them would take turns becoming the clan leader. Dapplekit, the oldest, would be Dapplestar first, and would appoint Nightkit (the second eldest) to be her deputy, and so on and so forth. Snowkit had grown to always be jealous of her two older siblings, "It's not fair" was one of her favorite things to say (and it still is to this day). Despite this, Nightkit had always been fond of her, secretly thinking that she was his favorite sister, and grew to be quite protective over her. As they grew, things began to change for Nightkit, it was as if the older their mother got, the more Nightkit began to realize his strength and confidence began to slip away as well. While Dapplekit and Snowkit grew to be large and strong youngsters... their brother grew...but wasn't as powerful as they had once thought he was....nor was he very big. Soon his role as being clan deputy in their games, was changed to being a mere apprentice, much to his extreme embarrassment . Even at night, the black kit began to think, all curled up with his mother and siblings; Perhaps...I wasn't meant to be a clan cat after all.
Only one moon until they would be made apprentices in when everything changed for the siblings, and especially Nightkit. Their mother, Lightclaw, the eldest queen, had fallen gravely ill. This was quite a shock to the siblings but only did it really hit Nightkit the hardest. The others believed that their medicine cat Leaftail, would surely be able to save their mother. However Nightkit was worried sick...every day, as much as he could, he would try to visit their mother...speak to her...ask if he could help her in anyway he could. Leaftail, a naive, but understanding she-cat, allowed him to visit, and taught him a few things here and there. Sadly though, one fateful evening Nightkit found that Leaftail was never enough, and certainly nothing compared to the sickness Lightclaw had caught. The old she-cat, too weak to form a sentence died, as she lived, silently, and beautifully. He could remember desperatly begging Leaftail to do something, to save her. However all Leaftail told him was " All we can do now is wait." This tore Nightkit into pieces, and even now, the death of his mother weighs strongly in his heart. It was then he learned that Medicine cats were not perfect, they could not do everything alone... perhaps if he had been there,
So as the time came for the trio to come unto the clan as apprentices, Nightkit chose a slightly different past. He knew we could never be a warrior, but perhaps with the help of Leaftail, he could be the greatest Medicine cat Starclan had ever seen. Now, something strange clicked in him some time after the death of his mother...the young kit grew impatient, and eager to learn things. He couldn't wait when Leaftail told him to...he didn't have time for that. Sweet Lightclaw never had enough time it seemed, and now in his life, he wasn't going to have any time for things if life went on slowly. He had to work, work, work, to be able to prevent deaths like that happening again.
Soon enough, Nightpaw was beginning to resent Leaftail, in everything she did. She was slow at her work, paced herself, and even socialized when he thought she should be working. Soon he began to think that perhaps it was her fault that their mother died. She was too slow...she didn't take her job seriously enough, and now the clan would be made to suffer. Perhaps with is when he began hiding his heart from others, growing cold towards cats, and only paying attention to his work. Even his once good relationship with Leaftail was falling into pieces...his words became disrespectful towards her, and he only even spoke to her when it was important. After all, why should he pay any attention to the one...who had let his mother die. Because of everything she did, she would be a burden to the clan. Nightpaw didn't want to be like that.
Moons passed, and soon Nightpaw was instead being called Nightpool, his new Medicine cat name. Now, perhaps earlier he would have been proud to have been given this name, but instead it only meant one thing. Work harder...you're wasting time. More and more he grew colder, and once more perhaps earlier before his heart hardened, and his whole body grew numb...he might have cared that his mentor disappeared, rumored to have been abducted by Two-legs, or that his sisters fell distant to him. But now, he was at the farthest he could go in the clan. He had little time to care that he might never see the cat who practically murdered his mother in his mind, or see his kin. They're still alive, it was the wounded and dead, he needed to worry about.
